2023: I Won't Return To PDP, Rather Be A State Man– Obasanjo

 



Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he would stay an elder statesman, as he isn’t anticipating getting back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).


Recall that Obasanjo had dumped the PDP after falling out with former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 election.


He had additional requested the chairman of his ward to shred his party card to pieces in public, announcing that he hosted quit get-together party politics.


Speaking on Saturday at his Abeokuta home while playing host to the National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu and others members, Obasanjo said that there is backpedaling on his choice to leave the PDP and secterian politics.


Addressing a larger gathering of the PDP stakeholders after a closed door meeting, Obasanjo conceded that the PDP would continue to be part of his history.


He said “I’m no longer in partisan politics and there isn’t anything that can bring back. Anybody who needs my recommendation, I will forever be there to the greatest advantage of Nigeria.


“Whatever I do in my own life…since I became president on the platform of PDP, PDP will keep in being important for my life. Since the day I tore my PDP card, that was the day I stopped to be a member of PDP. That day I promised not to be a member of any political party.


“I will keep on being a statesman.”


On his part, Ayu told Obasanjo that “assuming you leave PDP, the blood of PDP won’t ever leave you.”


The party chairman said the PDP would consistently require his caring fatherly advice towards governance in Nigeria.


In the team were the PDP Vice Presidential candidate in 2019 election, Peter Obi, former Governors, Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) Donald Duke (Cross River), amongst others.
